Position Description

Job Purpose

Primary goal is to organize and build capacity of community-based violence prevention efforts to understand and prevent sexual assault and interpersonal violence. Under the supervision of the Director of Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention & Prevention responsible for the planning, organizing and implementation of a comprehensive sexual assault, advocacy, violence prevention programs and services for the university community. Trains, directs, and supervises others performing various tasks associated with the delivery of programs and services, including faculty/staff, students, graduate assistants/interns and peer educators. Services include, but are not limited to: resources and referral, advocacy, events planning and coordination, support groups, community outreach, and cultural events co-sponsored with other faculty/staff organizations, student organizations and other internal and external stakeholders. Position will monitor and rotate on-call to respond to sexual assaults and other forms of interpersonal violence on campus as appropriate. Position will manage a caseload including maintaining case files and responding to correspondence and telephone inquiries, develop a comprehensive plan of the client's service and advocacy needs and referring to campus and community partners as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in health education, health promotion, or related field and 2 year experience or bachelor's degree in health education, health promotion or related field and 4 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed MSW with at least 3 years’ experience in sexual assault and violence prevention/advocacy and 1 year in a supervisor role in a related area. Strong leadership, organization, facilitation and presentation skills required. Ability to speak to large audiences and facilitate small group discussions. Experience in college health with an emphasis working with providing advocacy services to faculty and staff. Demonstrated background in program planning, implementation, policy and grant writing. Excellent organizational skills and time management necessary. Intermediate desktop publishing, word processing and spreadsheet skills highly desirable. Experience with evidenced-based programming. Ability to establish effective working relationships and maintain positive public relations. Must have the ability to: conduct research; manage multiple tasks; plan; coordinate; innovate, evaluate; absorb and use new knowledge; and communicate effectively in a variety of mediums. Expected to act with discretion, and report unusual or sensitive situations and seek advance guidance and concurrence from the supervisor prior to taking definitive action. Has considerable independent authority when dealing with operations, planning and programming. Must have excellent team management experience and be able to juggle multiple complex priorities within a changing environment in a positive and solutions based manner. Ability to provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention strategies for students experiencing crisis. Must exercise good judgment in structuring and organizing work and setting priorities, balancing the interests of clients and readily readjusting priorities to respond to customer needs and expectations and mission of Student Health Services. Must demonstrate strong ethical, professional, and service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills, sets a good example.
